Midland Counties Championship Show 2019 Critique

MINOR PUPPY D 4 (1)

1) McKinnon’s CLAONAIGLEN CLACHFIN – attractive baby making his show debut with aplomb.  Nice length and strength, good topline.  Good all through.

2) Stuart & Holt’s OLLANDSHEART OBERON – another very young chap who coped well with the surroundings and noise.  Not quite the length of (1) but very promising.  Lovely little ears.

3) Greenhalgh’s KILBOURNE DRUID AT LEKSMOOR – disappointingly, he did not want to be at the show.

PUPPY D 0

JUNIOR D 3 1

1) Peach’s KILBOURNE MERAK – I liked both these young males.  (1) scored on maturity.  Nicely balanced, good length and topline and nice tail.  Stood over plenty of ground, and moved well.

2) Peach’s ERPINGHAM SEBASTIAN TO KILBOURNE – not so mature, but very promising overall.  Would like a bit more bend of stifle.

POST GRAD D 8 (3)

1) Grimshaw’s GREYFLAX DIAMOND JOE AT JAMALISON – nicely balanced overall, plenty of substance and size - definitely male, which I like.  Attractive head and expression, nice ears.  Good body, and nice quarters, good feet and carried his tail well.  Stood over plenty of ground standing, and moved soundly with an easy and long stride.  Was pleased to award him the Dog CC.

2) Taylor’s ORMANSTAR GABRIEL NORMAN – not the maturity or substance of (1) but nicely balanced overall.  Dark eye, nice ears, good feet and nice length of body.
3) Gillie’s DORRATOR ORBIT

LIMIT D 8 (2) A very nice class.

1) Morton & Morgan’s COTHERSTONE FLINT AND STEEL – lovely type, lots of substance and nicely balanced length to height but very broad across his chest.  Lovely head and expression, eyes, ears.  Good body, nice quarters and lovely low-set hocks, good feet and attractive overall.  Movement not so wonderful on the day.

2) Llewellyn’s HUNKYDORY BOWIE AT KILBOURNE – very balanced and attractive all through.  Not the substance of (1), but good topline and tail set.  Moved well.

3) Cummings’ KILLOETER TAM DUBH

OPEN D 5 (2)

1) Baumann & Lucas’ PACKWAY LOXLEY NORTON – compact male with plenty of substance, but I would like to feel more meat on his bones.  Nice head and expression, good body and feet.  Nice quarters and moved soundly, but had to work to cover the ground as he has a short stride.  Reserve CC.

2) Peach’s CH KILBOURNE LLOYD – looked rather immature but a nice balanced hound overall.  Moved freely but didn’t shout ‘male’ at me.

3) Pursglove’s STRANWITH ROAG

VETERAN D 1

1) Shannon’s EREWHON CELESTIAL FIRE – nice head and expression, good teeth and balanced depth and length of body.  Stood over plenty of ground standing, and presented in very good condition.  He was a reluctant mover, lured round the ring by nibbles offered by his young handler.

MINOR PUPPY B 5

1) Kilgar’s CLAONAIGLEN STRONTIAN MAELSTROM – lovely shapely puppy, enough substance and moved nicely.  Good quarters.  Fairly heavy puppy coat, but overall very promising.  Beat her brother to Best Puppy.

2) Stuart & Holt’s OLLANDSHEART DESDEMONA – different type to (1) but lots to like. Well made with attractive head and good body.  Moved well.

3) Peach’s KILBOURNE GWENNE

PUPPY B 0

JUNIOR B 3 (2)

1) Peach & Cannon’s KILBOURNE ETOILE – stood alone to win, but a very pretty and nicely balanced bitch.  Well presented and moved out well.  Attractive picture overall, and nice low set hocks.

POSTGRADUATE B 11 (3)

1) Gillie’s DORRATOR ENO – lovely feminine bitch.  Good outline, body length and fall away, good tail.  Nice bend of stifle.  Movement was disappointing but this was true of several exhibits: the atmosphere of the Hall did not suit everyone.

2) Abbott & Constantine KALEGINY MAGNOLIA STEEL – a pretty and feminine bitch, lovely little ears - very balanced overall and no exaggeration.  Moved well.

3) Helps’ BEARDSWOOD ULYSSA

LIMIT B 10 (2)

1) Doak’s CON CENTRIC OF ROSSLYN – attractive bitch, but I would like a fuller eye.  Very shapely, and stands over plenty of ground.  Good top line and fall away, with a good tail, lovely low set hocks and good feet.  Shown in good condition

2) Wilce Quinton & Quinton’s KILBOURNE LOUISA CHICK AT KIRJOJAX – pretty head and nice neat ears.  Enough substance together with a good body.  Balanced overall and moved well.

3) Blogg & Horne’s ARDNEISH OSHA

 OPEN B 6 (4)

1)  Peach’s CH BLIXTEN STAR TO KILBOURNE (IMP FIN) – most attractive feminine bitch, with a lovely head and expression.  Of medium size, but nicely balanced with a good topline, lovely strong quarters, good feet and carried her tail well.  She had huge ring presence and powered effortlessly round the ring, an absolute joy to watch.  Pleased to award her the Bitch Ticket, and Best of Breed.  Su Cooper and ‘Star’ floated round the Big Ring several times – more joy for me, and we were all so thrilled when they won Group 3.

2)  Helps’ CH BEARDSWOOOD UNIQUE GEM – different type to (1) and higher on the leg.  A good strong bitch, standing over plenty of ground.  Would have liked more bend of stifle, but she moved well and was beautifully presented. Reserve CC.

VETERAN B 6 (4)

1) Kermack & Helps’ BEARDSWOOD RONA – hound and handler trotted round the ring quite the thing, determinedly putting best feet forward!  Nice feminine head, good clean teeth and neat ears.  Good body and tail.  Best Veteran.

2) Taylor’s SAINT VALENTENE LILLY – well covered and well presented bitch, who knew she was a veteran!  Attractive head, and nice hound overall.
